Are You Applying for OPA Teen Pregnancy Prevention Funding?

Approximate Read Time: <5 minutes

Last year the Office of Population Affairs (OPA) forecast three new Teen Pregnancy Prevention grants. Grants.gov indicates they could be released as early as next week.

For most of my career I (Tom) have worked in many aspects of teen pregnancy prevention – from program development, testing, delivery, and evaluation to state and federal TPP grant management to national capacity strengthening and organizational resilience as a consultant and contractor on federal TPP projects. I know firsthand, and have observed in others, the excitement and value of winning these awards as well as the complexity and challenges in achieving success with the funding.

OPA offers incredible opportunities for nonprofits across the US and its territories through these funds. We also know the process of writing the applications and then managing the awards can be huge and feel overwhelming.

We’d like you to know how we at Tenacious Change can support you as a potential grantee.

Grant writing

We can consult with you on planning your program application. We can provide consultation on creating program logic models, identifying important program components to include in your plan, structuring the program to operate efficiently, and helping you think through staffing needs. To be perfectly clear, we will not write your application.

If you are successful at winning an OPA award, here’s how we can help:

Community Engagement, Movement Making, and Program Sustainability

While these appear to be three separate issues, they are all related. Grantees who build effective long-term programs have been successful in all three areas. We have provided training and consultation on these issues for over fifteen years to nonprofits, grantees, and state and federal agencies. The Tenacious Change Approach is a research-based framework we’ve created over the years that addresses the mindsets, principles, and tasks of creating a change movement. We’ve helped nonprofits, state agencies, and TPP grantees throughout the country use these. Recently we introduced Creating a Change Movement: Getting Started with the Tenacious Change Approach, a 3.5 hour online streaming course that teaches the basics of movement making and community engagement leading to program sustainability.

Organizational Resilience

Organizational resilience is another aspect of our work that is important to helping grantees successfully deliver and sustain programs. We have created adaptive strategy plans for local, statewide, and international organizations. Our organizational studies and analyses have helped organizations make important decisions from how they describe themselves to their constituents to how they move forward into the future. Through strategic talent/HR management we help organizations determine how to recruit, retain, develop, and reward their best people. We also have a variety of workshop and training events on issues impacting successful implementation of a teen pregnancy prevention program. You’ll find a recent listing of these here.

Social Media Planning

Social Media Planning has become a necessity for many organizations that are building change movements in support of their programs. Members of our team have years of experience in social marketing and social media planning. They are available to help you in any way from simple consultation to full-service media planning and management.

Evaluation Research

We believe evaluation research needs to be about improvement. It needs to help your organization become better at what it already does well. For several years we have completed a variety of evaluation research projects for clients. They include development evaluation, performance measurement, staff and employee engagement, and program impact evaluation. We also have connections with other evaluators who have specialties that may be more in line with what you need. If your project is not a good fit for us, we’ll help you connect with another evaluator.

Consultation

As a small business, we do a lot. You can have an ongoing consultation relationship with us on anything you see here. If you can’t choose what you need, you don’t have to! We are only a Zoom click away – and are happy to tailor the conversation to what you need. If you don’t see what you need, you can also tell us what it is. If we can’t help, we’ll connect with someone who can.

We tailor our work to your needs. For this reason, it always begins with a complimentary consultation to learn more about what you need, what you want, and to think together about how we can help.

With the next round of OPA grants coming out soon, now is the time to be in touch. Please click on the box below to schedule a time to talk.
