Choose from Several Unique Immersive Learning Experiences
During next month’s Community Change Experience (CCE) in Delray Beach, Florida, participants will have the opportunity to participate in one of several immersive learning experiences. An “immersive learning experience” is a lot like a field trip but with the added benefit of connecting you with people who are working in their communities in real time. On Wednesday, October 26, in the midst of the CCE, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in an immersive learning experience in one of the following settings of your choice:Â
The Set, The City of Delray Beach
With a long history of community organizing, The Set is the historically black community in Delray Beach consisting of 29 neighborhoods. The community-driven transformation plan is a powerful example of the assets, vision, and interests this community holds. Experience a range of efforts grounded in this community-driven vision – from the enhancement of education and public spaces, to addressing housing and behavioral health – all while honoring the community’s history.Â
The City of Lake Worth Beach
Known for its vibrant downtown and distinctive neighborhoods, you will learn from community-led efforts focused on increasing unity, safety, and a sense of belonging through the built environment. Beginning with concentrated efforts in the Whispering Palms neighborhood, community-led projects such as neighborhood clean-up, the Adopt-A-Street program, and investments in parks have led to strong ties between residents and the city government. It has cultivated community agency to advocate the change they want to see for a thriving, equitable community.Â
The Glades Region
Located in the western part of Palm Beach County, the Glades region is a rural and primarily agricultural area that includes the three communities of South Bay, Belle Glade, and Pahokee, as well as unincorporated areas. The area is known for its expansive sugarcane fields and natural western border of the vast Lake Okeechobee. The Glades region is working to change the communities’ narratives from that of poverty, isolation, and hopelessness to strength and hope for all generations.Â
These immersive learning experiences are more reasons the Community Change Experience is NOT your typical conference.
The Community Change Experience is an event for community change practitioners from across North America, beginning on the evening of October 24th and ending on the afternoon of October 27th. By intention it is designed to be an experience for immersive learning, celebration, and facilitated peer learning.Â
